I have no idea what this thing is except for it's obviously to let something REALLY BIG out of the ground.
(Peter thinks it's just an air duct for the Tokyo subway but that would take all the fun out of it.)

no, you've got it all wrong... this is the Tokyo municipal monster. it's the one they keep under the subway (feed it about twenty head of cattle a day) to fight whatever giant monster has come to attack the city. nothing to fear. nothing at all. he's totally under control.
