oahu, hawaii: the boat. tuna. spinner dolphins. flying fish.

there was a whale, too, but all the pictures came out like black lumps in the water.

flying fish are weird looking. they are also very fast and therefore hard to photograph.

if you look carefully, you can see the small silver fish that was leaping out of the water trying to escape this yellowfin tuna. I do not know how the story ended.

the reason we were on this boat in the first place was to see these spinner dolphins:

Ros: Do you think death could possibly be a boat?
Guil: No, no, no... Death is... not. Death isn't. You take my meaning. Death is the ultimate negative. Not-being. You can't not-be on a boat.
Ros: I've frequently not been on boats.
Guil: No, no, no--what you've been is not on boats.

wow you must have a quick camera - nice "catches" and i dig the conversation - remings me of this point where Arthur Dent removed his own reason bead (or something like that) so he can hold tea and no-tea at the same time (don't remember what Douglas Addams book that was in though, so don't ask)

I got lucky. but yeah, the digital SLR is super-quick; one of the things I love about it. I have the lowest-end Canon one.

the conversation is from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, near the end... Amazon's "search inside" feature is uber-handy for finding exact quotes.

they're called spinner dolphins because they live in Honolulu. even though they're so close to all that nature, they don't have time to get out in it, so they go to the gym instead and ride stationary bikes.
