oakland, low-hanging fruit dept.: lions!

(this is at the Oakland zoo, where the lions have a whole hillside to themselves... big enough you can't always see them. when you do see them, it's a little strange: there's an ordinary California hillside. with lions.)

We just went to the NC zoo a few weeks ago, and had much the same thought. Look, elephants! Covered in red carolina clay. Chimps, sitting around in an overgrown field. And there weren't even animal footprints painted on the paths to lead you in the right direction to what you're looking for. Of course, The zoo is basicall one long trail, but there you have it.

graymalkin: seems like they're finally figuring this zoo thing out. I think they've managed to get past the point where it's a toss-up whether or not the animals would rather just get shot by a poacher and be done with it.

jenn: oh dear. what a fresh set of eyes will bring to a picture... it's just perspective! she's lying down, he's standing up... goodness.

I dunno, the critters are all either hiding well away from the onlooking freaks, on just sitting there bored out of their mind in the swelter that its the outdoors in summer in NC. I guess boredom is better than neuroticism. I think they need to have footprints painted on the trails, though. That was always my favorite part of the Nat'l Zoo.
